Create an accessible space that improves the experience for all visitors to the Museum of Discovery

Design an enclosed oasis of calm, where families can wind down from the activity elsewhere in the Museum of Discovery, rest and recharge, and explore the activities within at their own pace. Low lighting, soft furniture, and calming colors create a sense of peace and relaxation that is especially appealing to children (and adults) with sensory and spectrum issues. Children can curl up with a picture book in a soft-surfaced nook, play with mesmerizing sensory toys with soothing textures and repetitive shapes and motions, or enjoy specially designed sensory toys. Taken together, the experiences within Sensory Cove create a haven that communicates the museum's deep commitment to serving every child.
